  Program Objectives for MAIN CONFERENCE


Identify an important technique for starting a successful work day and recognize the connection between physical exercise and physical stamina and well-being.

Describe advances in the science of pressure ulcer development and clinical management of patients with pressure ulcers.

Discuss items of consensus from the recent NPUAP consensus conference on deep tissue injury.

Define the current state of patient care quality and safety and factors that influence care delivery and define a framework to approach the prevention of adverse events and its component parts: people, process and technology.

State developmental factors for infants that affect pouch seal and wear time, list common pressure ulcer concerns in pediatrics and describe common continence surgeries in pediatric populations.

ldentify treatment options of detrusor overactivity, be able to compare and contrast symptoms of urge and stress Incontinence and discuss the indicators for diagnostic testing for urinary incontinence.


Define palliative care and describe wound care strategies fur patients near the end-of-life. Understand how to approach wounds when collaborating with a palliative care or hospice team.

Discuss components of a professional growth portfolio and describe how a professional growth portfolio can help attain recertification.

Discuss how health care will be clinically and financially affected by health care reform.

Review critical aspects of patient history and discuss advanced assessment of the lower extremity.

Discuss risks of immobility among the obese individual, describe the meaning of progressive mobility, explore the economic impact of and pressure ulcer prevention on patient and caregiver safety outcomes and recognize the role of the nurse in this all-new paradigm for care.




Identify the anatomy of the wound and surrounding tissues.

Use 3 technlques of sharp debridement: scoring eschar, saucerizing callus around a wound, and removal of eschar and necrotic tissue.

Participants will be able to apply anatomy of soft tissue and apply wound debridement techniques using a pig foot model and be checked techniques using a pig foot model and be checked off on their skill by a skilled proctor.
