Sacramento Spring 2000 PCR Conference

Message From The President

Spring Greetings to each of you! It seems that time really flies these days.

The spring conference in Sacramento was excellent. The hostesses from the Sacramento support group once again really worked together to attend to every detail so that all could enjoy the conference! Many thanks also to Donna Goudberg Lockhart, the Education Coordinator, and her committee for a remarkable job! The educational content was truly superb. Once again the content was on par with any offered at a national conference. Mikel Gray gave an excellent presentation on Urinary Continence, which was most helpful to anyone preparing for recertification. A highlight was the panel of experts presenting on support surfaces: Richard Barnett, PhD (Hill-Rom), Steven Reger, PhD (KCI), James Spahn, MD (EHOB), and Allister McLeod, PhD (Huntleigh). In addition, Carmen Germaine Warner, author of "Touched By A Nurse" presented an exceptional keynote address that I know "touched" the hearts of many of her listeners. In addition, I am informed by our Treasurer, Liz Hiltabidel, that we cleared over $4,000.00 after expenses. My thanks once again to everyone who gave of their time to make this a great conference!

Now it is time to begin preparing for national conference in Toronto. I am looking forward to seeing many of you there. The meeting for the region will be on Sunday, June 4th, from 7:30-10:00 PM. Pacific Coast Region has a room reserved through WOCN for our meeting. Take this opportunity to come network with colleagues, to see what is new in the region, and to have some "social time" with each other.

I talked with Helen Tipton, WOCN membership person on April 7th. She informed me that approximately 100 of the Pacific Coast Region members have NOT renewed their membership. Please check your records to make sure your dues are paid for this year! After paying you will receive a second mailing to indicate your choice for the rebate. Please clearly mark this so that PCR receives the rebate from national for your renewal.

I will look forward to seeing you in Toronto. Plan now to avoid higher airline fares!

One of the most important reasons for belonging to a professional organization is personal and professional growth. This occurs from formal education, but even more importantly, it occurs regularly, as seasoned members nurture and guide colleagues. Professional mentors, are not merely teachers, who provide knowledge and skill to paying students. Mentors are volunteers, established professionals, who have nothing professionally to gain by sharing. They are professionals who realize the value of experience and provide leadership to their less experienced colleagues, in the form of caring, concern and direction . The members of the Pacific Coast Region of the WOCN wish to recognize the generosity and dedication of the select group of ET Nurses who extend themselves far beyond the demands of their employment positions to give of themselves to their colleagues.
